Overview

This was my first project that I worked on, and it was also my first introduction to Unreal Engine which was very exciting at the time. I learnt a lot this project about lots of things, but mainly pixel art and animation, and the basics about working inside 2D in Unreal Engine.

Our theme was "Power Source" and that gave me the idea to take inspiration from the 1st person action-platformer Ghostrunner, which I used as my main inspiration of the mechanics like using energy to perform special abilities such as dashing and combat attacks/moves.

Project Goals

-Learn the basics of Unreal Engine and 2D Pixel art.

- Make pixel art animations for movement; Run, Sprint, Idle, Jump, Dash.
- Make pixel art animations for attacking, enemy movement, enemy attacks and death animations.
- Make a tile map containing the levels platforms, props etc
- Make a large pixel art cityscape for the main menu in-game background, and death screen.
- Use Unreal Engine guides for blueprints to code the game mechanics. For example: patrolling enemy AI, attacking, dashing, health items, pickups, and the functions for the main menu and death screens.
